JOB DESCRIPTION
Main Areas of Responsibility
To deliver a key working service based upon structured key work sessions to vulnerable young people of the service. These sessions will aim to promote the life skills of young people and support their transition into adulthood.
Our young people are based in semi-independent/shared housing accommodations in the Bromley area. You will be required to travel to and from locations to visit young people for weekly key working sessions, so key work sessions will take place in the community and through positive activities.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES, TASKS AND DUTIES
•
Manage a caseload of no more than 10 young people living in the community; you will be responsible for your own timekeeping and structuring key work sessions consistent with young person’s needs and delivering sessions based on allocated hours for young person.

Complete comprehensive assessment post admission within 3- 4 weeks
•
Work with young people on completing the life and social skills programme in place to help them develop their independent skills.
•
Work with management and young people to develop a structured programme of key work sessions based upon the young person’s individual needs and focused on developing their self-reliance, self-esteem and developing their independent skills.
•
Monitor the young person’s ability to engage with everyday living and develop skills where necessary.
•
Promote safe, firm, consistent and fair boundaries with young people in respect of their behaviour and employ appropriate and agreed sanctions.
•
To promote, safeguard and protect the welfare of each young person.
•
Establish and maintain positive and trusting relationships with the young people that will promote their sense of security.
•
Promote the development of a healthy lifestyle for Young People.
•
Encourage young person to access education, training or employment supporting any application process.
•
Encourage the young person to take an active part in the local community, building relationships and maintaining social networks.
•
Prepare weekly key working session reports and monthly progress reports regarding each young person’s progress, these reports must be completed to a high standard for submission to the placing authority.
•
To budget, prepare and administer weekly financial payments to the young people, keeping accurate records and receipts for each expenditure.
•
To work closely and in cooperation with social work staff, specialists and other professional agencies in accordance with the role and function of the unit.
•
To support the young people to attend meetings with other professionals. You will be required to attend admission and planning meetings; attend LAC reviews ensuring all relevant paperwork is complete.
•
Carry out weekly monitoring checks for each property. You must supervise, record and report any repair work or damage to property to ensure it is kept to a high standard.
•
Helping Service Users with preparations for moving in or out of their accommodations.
Ensuring that properties are ready for letting as well as being well maintained.
•
Preparing sign-up packs & handbooks for new Service Users.
•
Supporting young people with managing their health needs, this involves support with registering with local health services and maintaining regular checks when needed.
•
Maintaining confidentiality for young people and reporting any concerns regarding young person’s welfare to the Manager.
•
Attend staff meetings and training sessions as and when required.
•
To carry out any other duties as requested by management.
Teamwork, Communication, Health and Safety
Maintain effective communication within your team and others, promoting team working and healthy working relations.

Make daily entries in the care plans (computer based) and report observations about the health and well-being of individual young people to the appropriate senior person
•
Contribute to the care team’s knowledge and awareness of the changing needs of young people at the daily handovers and attend house meetings.

Consult and follow written care and support plan procedures.
•
Follow Health and Safety policies and procedures at all times
Training
To take part in training and vocational courses as required.
Enhanced DBS Disclosure
Successful candidates will be subject to an enhanced DBS check before commencement of employment.
Other requirements
A degree of flexibility is needed. You may occasionally need to perform work not specifically referred to above to support the care team and young people. The need to do such duties will be reasonable and as agreed between the post holder and the manager.
Person Specification
Qualifications
•
Residential Child Care Level 3 (NVQ) is essential
Applicants with relevant experience and a commitment to obtain Residential Child Care Level 3 (NVQ), higher or equivalent considered.
Knowledge and Experience
•
Several years of experience working with children and young people is essential.
•
Care assessments and writing care plans.
•
Safeguarding children, child sexual exploitation, First Aid, Food Hygiene and Health and Safety certificates
•
Safeguarding and protection of vulnerable children is desirable.
•
Carry out risk assessment related to your key client
•
Basic Computer skills essential.
Personal Skills and Abilities
•
Sound practical skills in personal care and good housekeeping or willingness to learn and improve those skills.
•
Enjoy teamwork.

Excellent communication skills
•
Able to show respect, protect the privacy and uphold young people’ and fellow workers’ dignity in everyday practice.
